Porcupine Plain’s history

Porcupine Plain was first settled in the early 1920s, when veterans returning from the First World War took up land in the area. The town grew up within what is now the Porcupine Provincial Forest.

Today it sits along Highway 23, and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park is about five kilometres to the southwest on Highway 38. The town's mascot is Quilly Willy, who appears on its promotional material.

Porcupine Plain has also been home to a few well-known people, including former NHL player Kelly Chase, paralympic athlete Colette Bourgonje, and TSN SportsCentre sportscaster Darren Dutchyshen.
